CHICAGO HEIGHTS | The threat of a strike by Teamsters will not disrupt water treatment services, according to officials at the Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District.
The district announced in a news release Monday that the Teamsters Local 705 bargaining unit has submitted a notice that it intends to strike as soon as Wednesday.
Thorn Creek is a wastewater treatment provider for businesses and about 100,000 residents in Chicago Heights, Crete, Homewood, Park Forest, South Chicago Heights and Steger.
According to the district news release, nonunion employees are skilled in all departments and outnumber union employees. The district facilities use the latest control technologies and can be operated by one worker.
The district and union have been negotiating a four-year contract for the past 2-1/2 years. The district says the remaining major negotiating points are wage and health insurance premium contributions for the remaining two years of the contract.
