FORD HEIGHTS | Police are questioning a suspect in connection with the apparently related shootings of two teenagers Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Cook County Sheriff's Police spokeswoman, the first victim was shot about 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Diplomat Lane. The second shooting occurred a short time later near 13th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.

The 16- and 17-year-old victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at Franciscan St. James Health in Chicago Heights, Cook County sheriff's spokeswoman Liane Jackson said in an email.

Cook County Sheriff's Police gangs teams, a police helicopter, evidence technicians and detectives responded to the scene and took a suspect into custody shortly after the shooting, she said.

The investigation is continuing.
