CHICAGO | A tanker explosion late Saturday at a Far South Side industrial plant forced a large-scale response from Chicago fire officials.

A chemical tanker truck exploded around 10 p.m. near the intersection of 120th Street and Doty Avenue, a fire official said.

It took about an hour to gain control of the fire caused by the explosion. The investigation into what sparked the explosion is ongoing.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was called to investigate after the chemicals involved caused a hazmat response.
