CHICAGO | The son of Calumet City Mayor Michelle Markiewicz Qualkinbush is facing a criminal charge after being arrested this week in an alleged domestic abuse incident.

Chicago Police News Affairs said Paul Freyman, 34, of Calumet City, was arrested Tuesday by the Cook County sheriff’s police, then turned over to their custody for an incident that occurred March 14 in which Freyman allegedly hit his girlfriend.

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office said that a judge on Monday issued the arrest warrant along with an order of protection for the woman. Freyman is now charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery, and had to post 10 percent of $25,000 bond in order to remain free while the charges are pending.

Freyman is scheduled to appear at the Domestic Violence court, 555 W. Harrison St., in Chicago, on April 7, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Qualkinbush was unavailable Friday to comment.
