Eight men appeared in bond court Saturday after being arrested two days earlier when police from Dolton and the Cook County Sheriff's Department broke up a dogfighting ring in a Dolton industrial garage.

Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart said Saturday each suspect was charged with a class four felony for attending or patronizing a dogfight, according to a news release.

The suspects are: Reginald Bailey, 26, of Dolton; Rolando Davidson, 43, of Harvey; Michael Dubose, 56, of Country Club Hills; Anthony Fugate, 27, of Beecher; Donald Hudgins, 45, of Chicago; Willie McCray, 26, of Calumet City; Shaquille Middleton, 18, of Country Club Hills; and Arnulfo Salgado-Sanchez, 35, of Harvey.

Dolton police received a tip about a dogfight in progress in the 1500 block of East 142nd Street late Wednesday night.

When police responded to the location, they found many cars at the scene and some had pit bulls inside, said Dolton spokeswoman TaQuoya Kennedy in a news release issued Thursday. Windows to an overhead door at the building were covered in cardboard and officers saw about 15 males standing around a make-shift wooden ring, Kennedy said in the news release.

Dolton investigators notified county police who arrived at the scene, took over the investigation and apprehended several suspects.

Seven dogs were found, some of which were severely injured with bites and injuries. The dogs were taken to the South Suburban Humane Society in Chicago Heights.

A judge set bail amounts for the eight men between $10,000 and $25,000, of which 10 percent has to be posted to be released. But police said McCray also had an outstanding no bond warrant for a murder charge.

The defendants' next scheduled court appearance is Tuesday.
