CHICAGO | Chicago Public Schools have canceled classes for a second day as the city experiences sub-zero temperatures.
Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett made the announcement Monday during a news conference with Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Schools were closed on Monday and the announcement means they will be closed on Tuesday as well.
Byrd-Bennett says she's confident she's making the right decision based on the severity of weather. Temperatures reached 16 below zero on Monday in Chicago.
City emergency officials warned residents to stay indoors on Monday. Many Chicago students must walk to school.
