CHICAGO | Chicago is opening dozens of new locations for adult education opportunities.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Cheryl Hyman announced the expansion on Monday. The new locations are citywide. They will provide access to adults who want to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma, improve their English language skills or prepare themselves for college.

All adult education classes through the City Colleges of Chicago are free. The city has opened 24 locations so far and six more are scheduled to open in coming months.

City officials say that only a small number of adults who would benefit from the programming are registered.
