CHICAGO | Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has undergone treatment for blocked arteries.

Spokesman Adam Collins says McCarthy took himself to a hospital Thursday morning. Collins says the procedure went well and McCarthy will remain in the hospital for several days while he recuperates.

An emailed statement included no additional details.

Collins says McCarthy "is looking forward to being back on patrol with his fellow police officers very soon."
