Concerto winner to perform solo

The Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra will present its spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Morton High School Auditorium, 6915 Grand Ave. The concert is under the direction of Philip Bauman.

Violinist Patrick Bieszke is 15 and a sophomore at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Ill. He will be a featured performer at Sunday's spring concert.

He began playing violin at 4 and has studied at the Northwest Indiana Suzuki School with Linda Lager and at Music Connections in Orland Park with Linda Veleckis. He has studied with Kamen Vatchev for the past six years.

Patrick has been involved with many music programs including the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra and his school’s symphony orchestra, and is a two-time winner of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Young People’s Competition.

This year, he won both the Southwest Symphony Orchestra and Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra concerto competitions.

Patrick is also an accomplished swimmer and triathlete with top state and national titles to his credit. He runs with the Carl Sandburg High School cross country team and swims with the Hickory Willow Swimming Association.
