CHICAGO | Several community interest groups came together Aug. 17 and 18 to help a good cause.
Climate Cycle's Dunes to Downtown Ride, which raises money to fund environmental projects and solar panel arrays in Chicago area schools, made a stop at Wolf Lake on the Illinois side.
Cub Scouts of Pack 773, which meet at Annunciata parish on the East Side, along with volunteers from the Southeast Environmental Task Force were on hand to offer water, Gatorade, energy bars and fruit as they rested before cycling on. The 25-plus cyclists began their two-day, 125-mile ride in Chicago and spent the night at the Indiana Dunes. On Aug. 18, 50-plus cyclists returned through Wolf Lake on their way back to their final destination in Chicago at Francis Parker School, one of the schools they support.
The Scouts enjoyed cheering the riders on and providing them with energy items. The cyclists also spent time talking to the Scouts about cycling and green energy. To learn more about Climate Cycle's school based sustainability initiatives visit their website at www.climatecycle.org.
