CHICAGO | Two East Side teens are among eight De La Salle Institute students who were recognized for their achievements in taking the 2013 National Spanish Exam.

In all, there were 68 high schools participating with 7,775 students taking the exam. Of the 351 students who received recognition, eight were from De La Salle.

Placing third in Level 1 Bilingual Excelente were Crystal Padilla, of the East Side, and Sarah Herrera, of Chicago Lawn. Placing third in Level 1 Excelente was Jacob Bernal, of Clearing. Placing fourth in Outside Experience Notable Level 1 was Fernando Moreno, of the Back of the Yards.

Placing fourth in Bilingual Notable were Carmen Ferrer, of the East Side, Aaron Funes, of New City, and Gabriela Hernandez, of Little Village. Placing second in Level 2 Bilingual Sobresaliente was Juliana Tamayo, of Little Village.
