CHICAGO | Lincoln Park Zoo’s Summer Camp programs offer exciting exploration opportunities for animal and nature lovers. And this year, some 25 lucky campers will have the experience for free.
The deadline for the need-based scholarships is April 26; recipients will be contacted by phone in early May. Full scholarships covering all registration fees or partial scholarships covering part of the registration fees may be awarded for both of the zoo’s Summer Camp programs:
Conservation Camp is a chance for kids ages 4 through fourth grade to discover animal diversity, environmental conservation and how Lincoln Park Zoo cares for resident animals. Session topics range from Homes, Holes, and Hideaways to Wild Within and Grossology.
Zoo Crew is a summer learning and outreach opportunity for budding explorers entering fifth through eight grade this fall. The two-week program has an overnight component on the Thursday of the second week. Participants will learn about various careers at the zoo, meet zookeepers and veterinarians, and participate in field research projects with biologists and animal behavior scientists.
The application process includes a form filled out by the student demonstrating his or her desire to learn about wildlife as well as parent and nonparent recommendations and proof of need.
Visit the zoo’s website www.lpzoo.org/camps for camp dates, details and an application in English or Spanish. For more information, call Lincoln Park Zoo’s Education Office at (312) 742-2056.
