CHICAGO | A man drowned Tuesday in the Calumet River near the 13700 block of South Hoxie Avenue, officials said.

The Coast Guard Station at Calumet Harbor said the unidentified man was reported missing at 1:58 p.m. The man was swimming from the dock or a shore when he went missing.

Divers began searching for the man about 2:30 p.m. but were initially unable to find him. Rescue efforts took place near the Sunset Bay Marina.

A Chicago police boat was able to locate him using a sonar equipment. Divers pulled the man from the bottom of the river at 7:21 p.m., Coast Guard officials said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said identification of the man was pending notification of next of kin.

Officials did not release Tuesday evening where the man was from.
