SPRINGFIELD, Ill. | The Illinois State Board of Education will offer training to organizations that want to sponsor free summer meals for children. The board's Nutrition and Wellness Program has scheduled four workshops around the state in April and May.

The summer meals program is funded by the U.S. Agriculture Department. It reimburses organizations that provide meals to children 18 or younger when school is not in session. Students with disabilities who are 18 or older and in a school program also are eligible.

Sponsoring groups must be units of state, local or tribal governments, private nonprofit organizations, or public or private nonprofit camps, schools, or colleges or universities.

The workshops are April 3 in Elgin, April 10 in Galesburg, April 17 in Springfield and May 1 in Willowbrook.
