CHICAGO | Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a Norfolk and Southern freight train parked in the city's Hegewisch neighborhood.

Chicago police said they first received calls at 7:15 p.m. of train cars burning near 136th and Brainard Avenue, one block northwest of the Hegewisch South Shore station.

Police said the fire was extinguished before there were any injuries or damage to the surrounding neighborhood.

A spokesman for Norfolk and Southern couldn't be reached Friday night for comment.
