CHICAGO | One month ago each Cub Scout of Pack 773 was given a block of wood, four wheels and nails and instructed to "do their best" to craft a pinewood derby car.

On jan. 24, 35 Scouts returned with their homemade cars to the Annunciata Parish Hall on the East Side. Racing were several Batman cars, camouflaged cars and one made to look like a Wii remote. The Scouts would not reveal their secret whether more or less weight was the key to winning.

Tiger Scout Noah Munoz made the announcement at the start of the race, "Remember it's not about winning, it's about having fun." Many of the Scouts will take their cars back to their workshops to get them ready to race again at the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 8 at the Chicago Council's Pinewood Derby Race. The Scouts enjoyed Boy Scout popcorn at the derby and each Scout received a patch for their efforts.
