CHESTERTON | Six Cub Scouts of Pack 773, from the East Side, ventured out on a Saturday morning last month to participate in the Order of the Arrow Michigamea Lodge 110 Potawatomi Trail Hike at Indiana Dunes State Park.

The Cub Scouts learned to plan ahead and be prepared for the elements while they hiked the five miles of Trail 9.

"This was the coolest thing I ever did in my life," Tiger Cub Scout David-Daniel Garza told the hike coordinator.

The Scouts and their parents were able to still see Lake Michigan and the ice shelf. The hike traditionally attracts more than 1,200 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, and Venturing Crews, some even hiking 10 miles. The Scouts will receive a patch for their involvement.
