CHICAGO | A student at George Washington High School told police a man grabbed her and tried to pull her into his car Thursday morning on the city's East Side.

According to police, at 9:10 a.m., the 19-year-old was walking on the sidewalk when she was approached by an unknown man who stepped out of a red vehicle with a black trunk.

The man tried to talk to the teen, but she kept walking. The man then grabbed the victim by the arm and tried to pull her toward his vehicle.

The teen broke free, ran home and called police.

Ald. John Pope, 10th, issued a statement on the crime late Thursday night.

"Luckily, this student was able to get away," Pope said. "I encourage everyone to be aware of your surroundings. If you see an automobile matching this description, please contact 911 immediately."
