ALSIP, Ill. | Emergency workers are on the scene at a suburban Chicago chemical plant, battling a fire that was apparently sparked by a gas leak.

Blue Island Phenol plant manager Bill Moffatt says two people were injured as a result of the fire, which began burning at about 11:30 on Friday morning. He says all other employees at the facility in Alsip have been accounted for.

Moffatt did not have details about the conditions of the injured workers or exactly how the fire began.

There was a leak of what he called "gas material," but he was not sure if that triggered an explosion or if it simply ignited the fire.

The blaze was still burning at about 1:30 p.m.
