CHICAGO | The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation is seeking volunteers for a citywide cleanup project.

The department announced Tuesday the neighborhood revitalization event will take place April 20.

Volunteers are expected to help by raking leaves, weeding and removing litter that accumulated during winter.

Department Commissioner Charles Williams said the Clean and Green project is a great opportunity for Chicagoans to build community pride. The department will provide brooms, rakes, shovels and bags for the cleanup effort.

Nearly 400 community groups participated during last year's effort.

Interested volunteers should register by April 12.
