CHICAGO | Lincoln Park Zoo invites pre-kindergarten to fourth-graders to kick back with the critters during winter and spring breaks. Registration for both camps opens at 10 a.m. today via the zoo’s website.
For the first time, the zoo is offering Winter Break Camp on Dec. 30, 31, Jan. 2 and 3. Join in on all four days of the adventure, or just choose to come to a day or two. The cool weather camp is all about animal movement, so campers will do the locomotion with frequent fliers like barn owls and flamingos and rapid runners like the zebras and lions. Each group will discover ways Lincoln Park Zoo cares for animals at the zoo and conserves them in the wild with hands-on activities specifically tailored to their age.
Full-day camp for first- through fourth-graders runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $62/day ($53/day for Lincoln Park Zoo members). For pre-K and kindergarteners, choose between a morning and afternoon session at $31/day ($26/day for Lincoln Park Zoo members). All campers will receive a Winter Break Camp long-sleeved T-shirt, and healthy snacks will be provided.
As the weather warms up, Lincoln Park Zoo campers will journey to Africa — no passports required. Spring Break Camp 2014 is a safari party that explores the ins and outs of habitats from across Africa and introduces the critters that call it home. Camp sessions are offered during the weeks of April 7, 14 or 21.
Pre-K and kindergarteners will embark on a Use-Your-Senses Safari, crawling like cockroaches and sniffing an aardvark. An African Adventure awaits first- and second-graders who will explore habitats from desert to jungle to savanna. Meanwhile, third- and fourth-graders will step into the shoes of a field researcher by tracking and analyzing the signs and signals animals leave behind as Scientists on Safari.
Full-day camp for first- through fourth-graders runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $310/week ($265/week for zoo members). For kids ages 4 to 5, choose between a morning and afternoon session at $155/week ($130/week for zoo members). All campers will receive a Spring Break Camp long-sleeved T-shirt, and healthy snacks will be provided.
Open registration for both camps begins at 10 a.m. today. For a full list of registration times and dates as well as a detailed description of each age-specific camp experience, visit www.lpzoo.org or call (312) 742-2056.
