CRETE | Horses won't be the only thing running at Balmoral Park on June 7 as runners and walkers from all over the Chicago area will take to the track in the sixth annual Runnin' With the Horses event to benefit breast cancer research.

WGN-TV's Dina Bair will host the event, which includes a one-mile noncompetitive walk.

The 5K running course winds the grounds of Balmoral Park with the final mile on the track. Walkers begin and end at the start/finish line of the race track.

The timed event will award the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female in each division ranging in age from 15 and under to 60 plus.

All of the proceeds go to the "One in a Million" campaign of Dancing with Chicago Celebrities, a nonprofit based in Chicago that donates money to Chicago area organizations that do research and/or work in the fight against breast cancer.

Registration is $25 per runner or $20 per walker and includes an event T-shirt, free race program and one free pint of beer at the Brewhaha Beer Festival for those 21 and older. There will be three free pints of beer to all who register online before May 26.

The Brewhaha Beer Festival takes place directly after the 5K race, with free admission and live music by The Muddsharks. It features more than two dozen craft beers from the area as well as nationwide, food and horse racing. Beer can be tasted by the pint or sample size.
