CRETE | The Crete Public Library’s main floor display case features artist Maritess Laurie through the beginning of October.

The case holds colorful landscapes with flowing waterfalls and serene mountain scenes. Laurie's life-like flower bouquets show off her water color techniques with note to form and vivid color choices.

Laurie was surrounded by talent growing up. her father drew pictures and cartoons and her mother designed and made dresses. She began drawing in elementary school and soon was drawing graphite portraits of family and friends. By high school, her talents had advanced and she was chosen to represent her school in a county wide drawing contest where she ranked in the top three.

Laurie has no formal training and uses books on art from the Crete Public Library to learn different techniques and to find a style of her own. The library is at 1177 Main St.
