CRETE | The Youth Services Department of the Crete Public Library recently held a Mastering the Arts program on Native American art for children ages 5 to 8.

Youth Services Librarian Kathy James shared a reproduction of a painting by Black Hawk, a Lakota Native American who lived during the 1800s. The painting shows Lakota men and women in their tribal dress standing arm in arm in a circle. Black Hawk captured nature scenes and the Plains Indians' way of life in detailed pictures.
