CRETE | The Crete Public Library's Children's Department has announced its programs for February. Registration is required for all programs other than drop-in story times. Register in person at 1177 N. Main St. or by phone at (708) 672-8017.
Preschool Story Time
For children 4 and 5 years old from 1 to 1:45 p.m. on Mondays, Jan., 30 and Feb. 6, 13 and 27 or from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23 and March 1. No class on Feb. 20 — children may attend the Thursday class. Children will be listening to stories and music plus make a craft to take home. Register for one session
Toddler Story Time
For children ages 2 and 3 years old and their caregivers from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 or on Wednesdays, Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Activities include stories, music and flannel board activities. Register for one session of Toddler Story Time
Wee Ones Story Time
For children ages up to 23 months of age from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 2. Children and caregivers will enjoy simple rhymes and stories, use play scarves during music time and learn simple baby yoga positions.
Snow Day Fun
With Miss Michelle from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 1 for children ages 7 years and up.
Tween Movie Day: Romance
At 3 p.m. Feb. 4. Come enjoy a movie on the big screen.
Adventure Club
Adventure Club is for children ages 7and 8 years old from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7. Children will experience a different adventure every week with a craft, snack and games. Miss Judy has great adventures planned.
GROSS (Get Rid OF Slimy girlS)
A program for boys ages 7 years and up takes place from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Feb. 9. February's program is all about Indiana Jones.
Tween Ink
For children ages 9 to 12 years old from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13. Bring your writing project or create a new one with Miss April's help. When your project is finished you will learn how to submit your writing to various publications.
Chess Night With John
Chess Night with John is from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13 for children ages 7 years and up. Experienced players challenge one another or John will set up and teach the game to new players.
Tween LAB
The Crete Public Library's Tween LAB will meet at 4 p.m. Feb. 14. Tween LAB is a library advisory board which helps the library staff plan programs, design displays and purchases materials.
ISAT Workshop
Sharpen children's skills for the ISAT tests with an ISAT Workshop presented by ME4E from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16. Children in third, fourth and fifth grade will play unique games that help participants learn from doing. The focus will be on science; "green" math and reading too.
Reader's Theatre
Reader's Theatre takes place from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, Feb. 14, 21 and 28 for children ages 8 years old and up. Children read their lines instead of memorizing them and perform their short play on Feb. 28. This is a three-week commitment, practice the first two weeks and perform the last week.
L'il Doodlers
L'il Doodlers is from 11:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 16 for toddlers 2 and 3 years old and their caregiver. Children will experiment with painting, gluing and creating, while developing fine motor, language and self-help skills plus stories and songs.
Doughnuts with Dad
Doughnuts with Dad is from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18. Stories are geared to the younger child to be enjoyed with "the man" in their life. No registration required.
GRUB (Get Rid of Ucky Boys)
The Crete Public Library offers GRUB, a new program just for girls ages 7 years old and up, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23. Girls this is your special time to enjoy Miss Michelle's awesome programs.
Art Studio
Art Studio is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 27 for children 9 years old and up. Sign up for this instructional program with Miss April where several art mediums will be used to make this a fresh and creative class.
Home School Huddle
Home School Huddle is from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 15 for all families who home school or are interested in home schooling. Come to network and get the resources you need. Simple activities will be available for your children. This is a drop-in program, no need to register.
Girls Night Out
For girls 7 years old and up from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15. Join us and make a great craft with Miss Bethann.
The Underground Railroad
The Crete Public Library presents a powerful history program starring Terry Lynch of Histories for Kids at 1 p.m. Feb. 18. Lynch portrays an owner of a "safe house" in Illinois to explain how the house was used to protect escaped slaves on their journey to Canada.
Wanted: Book Geek Bloggers
Check out the Crete Public Library's website: www.cretelibrary.org where you will find Book Geek Bloggers for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders run by children's staff member Michelle Madsen. Madsen seeks more book geeks to share their opinions about all the great books she has read plus ones you would like to introduce others to.

The Children's Department is interested in starting a Lego club. If you have Legos at home that you would be willing to donate to the library, please bring them to the Children's Department.
