CRETE | The Crete Public Library hosts a new historical display, "Wintry Fun in Old Crete: Sledding, Sleigh Rides and Christmas Trees," through January. The display is presented by the Crete Historical Society and collector Leslee Williams, of Crete.
The cases are filled with vintage ornaments of Santa, an angel and stocking from the 1950s, a miniature snow village, a 1960 L.L. Bean sled plus fur muffs and hats and a sheepskin cape to keep sleigh riders warm during a winter ride through the snow.
Williams’ favorite small wooden sleigh was sold in the Sears catalog more than 100 years ago and was usually pulled by hand, goat or dog.
