CRETE | The Crete Woman's Club promotes enriching activities for its members and guests year-round.
Whether it is a trip to an exhibit at the Art Institute or a lecture from the National Strategy Forum at the Union League Club of Chicago, the club finds stimulating area cultural events.
At the Feb. 21 meeting, curator Geoffrey Bates will offer a slide presentation on The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park of Governors State University in University Park. The park showcases a major collection of 27 works that is set within the wild prairie swales of the GSU campus. The presentation will begin around 1 p.m. at Lincolnshire Country Club, 390 E. The club continues to encourage the next generation in pursuing education by offering college and camp scholarships. Eight summer camp scholarships in the amount of $250 each will be awarded to students who are currently in the ninth, 10th and 11th grades who reside in Crete Township. Areas of interest must be music, athletics, art, drama, or educational enrichment. Applications will be available in the guidance offices of Crete-Monee, Illiana Christian, Illinois Lutheran, Bloom Trail and Marian Catholic high schools as well as on the club's website. The club is also offering two $2,000 college scholarships to graduating seniors from Crete-Monee High School who will be attending an accredited institution of higher learning. Applications will be available in the Crete-Monee High School guidance office or on the club's website. Deadline for all scholarship applications is April 15.
