CRETE | Greg Schneider will have to wait a month to find out if he'll be Crete-Monee's athletic director after the District 201 School Board tabled the matter Monday.

The agenda packet for Monday's meeting from the district website had a personnel package that included Schneider's reassignment from supervisor of instruction and special education to head of athletics, but the final decision was moved to next month's meeting.

Schneider would have taken the job on July 1, had it been approved.

The search for a new athletic director began when current athletic director Gene Cahan was reassigned by the board in March. The move came despite protest from coaches and community members. Cahan continues to coach baseball at Crete-Monee, as he has for 25 years, and will teach math when school begins in August.

Schneider has been an assistant football coach for the Warriors the last two seasons and was head coach from 2002-04. He also has worked as dean of students and taught middle school math and high school science.

Schneider said via e-mail that he couldn't comment until an official decision is made.
