Cindy Jansky, of Caliber Funding, and Pam Bilyak, of Tupperware, would like to thank everyone who helped, attended and donated to the Schererville Chamber of Commerce’s 21st Mardi Gras Fashion Show this month. It was a great success and proceeds will be presented to the PTOs of Grimmer Middle School and Watson, Peifer and Homan elementary schools.

Help Scouts help veterans

Every year, Schererville’s Boy Scout Troop 532, chartered out of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, visits veterans at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette.

Along with the many items they take along as gifts, two items the veterans really like are white socks and T-shirts. If you would like to help the Scouts supply these items to residents of the Indiana Veterans Home, please drop off donations of men's or women’s new white socks and new and gently used XL or larger T-shirts at the church, 140 W. U.S. 30, Schererville, or the chamber office at 143 E. Joliet St.

Corned beef dinner

There’s some sort of connection between corned beef and and longer days of spring. While clocks will spring ahead March 10, Schererville’s American Legion Post 485 will be serving Corned Beef and Cabbage from 4 to 7 p.m. March 13.

Post 485, smoke free and family friendly, is at 7485 Burr St.

Two dinners planned

St. Michael Church, 1 Wilhelm St., Schererville, will host its St. Patrick’s Day Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. March 16, as well as a Lenten Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. March 22, both in St. Patrick’s Hall.

Honoring the children

This year, the Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation will honor six children who recently lost their lives. While heads will be shaved at the annual St. Baldrick’s Day event, they have made the celebration an all-day, family event by adding music, face painting, contests and shopping.

Get a team together and join the NICK Foundation from noon to 8 p.m. March 24 at 9163 U.S. 41, St. John. For more information, call (219) 765-7677.

Support the Tribe

The fourth annual Support the Tribe Benefit will be held April 26 at The Patrician Banquet Center, 410 E. U.S. 30, Schererville.

I didn’t know that Indiana high school sports programs, except for facilities and coaching salaries, are self-supporting, not funded by the state. The Lake Central Athletic Booster Club hopes to raise at least $30,000 to help support 24 sports teams with more than 600 athletes participating.

Your help is needed to make this event a success, not only by attending but hopefully donating items for the auction or raffle. The donation deadline is April 10; call Cindy at (219) 746-7481 or Sherrie at (219) 789-2974 for more information on how to participate.

Local churches are planning Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Services for next month, and I would like to wish you all a Happy Easter on March 31 and a blessed spring.
