CRETE | The Crete Public Library’s main floor display case for the month of August featured Rico Baskin, the creator of Lil’ Thangz.

Baskin is a self-taught miniature paper model artist whose miniatures are detailed masterpieces of the real thing. With paper, scissors and glue Baskin has been creating miniatures for more than 20 years and has been featured in several newspapers and television interviews. The library’s display shared his career with articles and miniatures of Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonalds, an entire computer set up, potted plants, animals and much more.

Baskin’s works consistently tour in Chicago and surrounding areas and he is kept busy working in the industrial design field and constructing special effects models in the entertainment field for movies such as “Armageddon” and TV ads.

Baskin and LaVerne Baskin, Lil’ Thangz public representative, recently spent time at the library sharing how Lil’ Thangz was created, the how-to’s of creating miniatures and signing autographed pictures for the patrons.
