CRETE | The Crete Public Library GRUB program recently had fun with the mythology of Medusa and the Boogey Man. GRUB stands for Get Rid of Ucky Boys and is for girls ages 7 and older.

Librarian Michelle Madison shared the story of the Boogey Man. The girls learned the Boogey Man myth began around the 16th century and the creature is spoken of in many cultures by adults to frighten children into good behavior.

In Greek mythology Medusa was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as having the face of a hideous human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Gazing directly upon her would turn onlookers to stone.
