Snow Days Chicago from Jan. 29 through Jan. 31 features 15 teams of professional artists in a snow sculpting competition. INCOME TAX HELP | Chicago Heights
Bloom Township Senior Department is offering free income tax assistance in cooperation with the American Association of Retired Persons for senior citizen and disabled people beginning Feb. 1 at the Bloom Township Center Senior Department, 425 S. Halsted St. Tax-Aide volunteers, trained by IRS certified instructors, will prepare federal and state tax returns at no charge or gratuity. Seniors who wish to have their tax returns prepared should bring copies of their 2008 tax returns, tax forms for 2009, W-2 Forms, 1099s and other relevant data pertaining to 2009 income. Supervisor T.J. Somer says the program will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday through April 15. Appointments are required.

Christ Our Savior Catholic School, West Campus for kindergarten through eighth grade, 900 E. 154th St., South Holland and East Campus, for prekindergarten through eighth grade, 320 156th St., Calumet City, will celebrate Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 31 through Feb. 6. An open house is scheduled at both campuses from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 for all current parents and those interested in enrolling for next year. Tours will be provided. A special Catholic Schools Week Mass will be celebrated at 8:10 a.m. Feb. 3 at the East Campus, St. Andrew Church, and at 8:30 a.m. at the West Campus, St. Jude Church. Astronauts on the International Space Station must eat, sleep, and exercise just like everyone on the Earth. Yet there are some major differences. Children in third through fifth grade will have an opportunity to focus on the ways astronauts do ordinary things in the extraordinary environment of outer space at 4 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Munster Branch Library, 8701 Calumet Ave. Learn how a space suit protects astronauts on space walks, inspect authentic NASA food items, sample astronauts-like treats, and do a hands-on experiment with vacuum chambers to simulate the vacuum of space. Spend a memorable evening with your little sweetheart at Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's Daddy-Daughter Date Night. Participants will dance to oldies and current favorites, snack on refreshments, enjoy complimentary corsages and a take-home keepsake. Become a player in a trip down the rabbit hole by auditioning for Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's upcoming performance of "Alice in Wonderland." The Stage, Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's theater group, is holding auditions for the classic Lewis Carroll tale for performers ages 6 and older. Auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 6 and from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 11 at Dolphin Lake Clubhouse, 183rd Street and Governor's Highway. Performances will run from April 9 through April 11. Participants chosen to perform must pay a $35 cast fee due at the first rehearsal.

The Tinley Park Arts Council is seeking fine artists to exhibit and sell pieces from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at SweetArts. This event is a fine art, wine, microbrew and gourmet fair held at American Chartered Bank in Tinley Park, 171st Street and LaGrange Road.
Space is available for about 15 fine artists such as painters, sculptors, metal works, ceramists and more. The space is free, with a small commission on any sold works payable to the Arts Council Craft items are not accepted.

Calling all teachers and teaching assistants. The Office of Career Services at Governors State University is sponsoring a career fair for educators. Current students, alumni, and community members interested in finding employment in schools are invited to attend. Potential employers will be on hand from both public and private institutions and representing all grade levels. The education career fair is from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Hall of Governors. While the Education Career Fair is free and open to the public, employers who wish to participate must register and pay a registration fee.
