DOLTON | Illinois State Police are seeking video surveillance of a fatal accident Tuesday on the Bishop Ford Freeway that left a Chicago woman dead, a spokeswoman said.
Jennifer Mitchell, 27, fell from a moving sport utility vehicle early Tuesday morning near Dolton before being struck and killed by a semi.
Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond on Tuesday said the SUV driver is in police custody but was not cooperating with police. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon, she said.
Investigators are seeking out Mitchell's friends, family and co-workers for more information into her death.
According to state police, at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday an SUV was traveling south on the Bishop Ford at 154th Street when Mitchell was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the road. The driver of the SUV fled, police said. Mitchell was then struck and killed by a passing semi.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. It was not clear if Mitchell was pushed or if she jumped from the SUV.
Shortly after Michell was killed, state police saw the SUV on northbound Interstate 294. The SUV crashed near the 127th Street exit in Alsip as officers tried to pull over the 28-year-old driver. The driver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
