The FBI is seeking the public's help in identifying a man wanted in connection with nine bank robberies in the Midwest, including back-to-back crimes in Munster and Hammond in August.

According to a news release, the man is believed to have robbed banks in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri between June 30 and Sept. 28.

The man is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a heavy build and a gap between his front teeth. His disguises have included a baseball hat, sunglasses and full beards. He may be driving a tan or gray Hyundai Elantra with a rear spoiler and a broken passenger-side break light.

The man is believed to have robbed the TCF Bank inside the Jewel-Osco store at Calumet Avenue and Ridge Road in Munster Aug. 8 and 10 minutes later, the Fifth Third Bank inside the Strack & Van Til store at 115 Sibley St. in Hammond. In both crimes, the man passed a note to the teller and demanded money. He did not display a gun.

The FBI is asking anyone with information about the man or the crimes to contact the Merrillville office at (219) 769-3719.
