FORD HEIGHTS | A truck driver died when his semi went off U.S. 30 and crashed near Illinois 394 early Wednesday.

John Mann, 58, of Park Forest, Ill., was identified as the driver, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. An official cause of death was pending an autopsy results.

According to a Cook County Sheriff's spokesperson, Mann was driving a 1994 Ken worth semi that was eastbound on U.S. 30 when, for an unknown reason, the truck went off the road just past the Ill. 394 northbound entrance ramp.

The truck went off the right shoulder, into a gorge, then continued to travel southeast between two trees, across the U.S. 30 eastbound entrance ramp to a grassy area. The semi came to a rest after striking a chain-link fence.

Mann was found dead inside the vehicle, a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

The accident briefly closed the ramp from northbound Ill. 394 to eastbound U.S. 30, according to Illinois State Police.
