FORD HEIGHTS | Three 16-year-old boys are being charged as juveniles in the severe beating of a Ford Heights man who was getting off a bus, according to the Cook County sheriff's department.

Just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, the 49-year-old man was exiting a bus near Woodlawn Avenue and Diplomat Lane in Ford Heights when one 16-year-old, who was with a group of people, took the man's bicycle that was at the front of the bus. After the man got off the bus, the boy punched the man in the face, police said.

Other members of the group also punched and kicked the man. About six to nine individuals are believed to be involved. A witness called 911 to report the beating.

Sheriff's police found the man lying on the ground with severe injuries and he was taken to a hospital where he remains.

The sheriff is seeking the public's help to identify the others involved in the beating and asks anyone with information to call the Sheriff's Police Investigations Unit at (708) 865-4896.
