Temperatures in the low 90s coupled with high humidity are expected to push the heat index to near 100 Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast prompted St. John the Baptist School in Whiting to announce an early dismissal time of 12:30 p.m. Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond will be dismissing students an hour early at 2 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement warning of the heat in Cook, Will, Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton counties.
