GLENWOOD | The Brookwood Elementary District 167 School Board on Monday officially approved its 2012 tax levy resolution.

No changes were made to the preliminary levy of $7,003,400 which was approved last month.

District Business Manager Andrew Ziegler said the 2012 levy represents a requested 4.9 percent increase over last year and protects the district in case of a large drop in the equalized assessed values of properties.

"We'll have levied enough where we won't lose any funds," Ziegler said.

With Board President Melinda Plott absent, the board voted unanimously to approve the levy.

Board Vice President Cynthia Pettis presided over the meeting and encouraged residents to continue their attendance at board meetings in the coming year.

"There's a lot that's going to be going on with the School Board," Pettis said.

In addition to planning the construction of a new middle school that is expected to open in the fall of 2015, four of the seven seats on the School Board will be up for election on April 9.

Nomination packets for candidates for the board election are available at the District Administration Center, 201 Glenwood-Dyer Road.

The last day to file petitions to run is Dec. 26. The last day to file an objection to a candidate's nominating papers is Jan. 3.
