GLENWOOD | The Village Board last month approved the purchase of a gazebo and seating for the wedding area at the village-owned Glenwoodie Golf Course at a cost not to exceed $100,000.
Glenwood village President Kerry Durkin said the goal was to have the gazebo installed by June 21, which he said marks the first outdoor wedding this year at the golf club.
The cost of the gazebo is actually $10,800, but the additional funds will be used in part to install brick pavers, stamped asphalt, or some other type of ground surface in the area where chairs will be situated.
That work is expected to cost more $60,000 and Durkin said it will not be done until money is available.
Village Administrator Donna Gayden said some of the $100,000 would also have to be used to make sure the walking area from the banquet room down the hill to the gazebo is ADA-compliant.
Durkin said all of the expenses will come out of the golf course budget.
"Right now, the golf course has $139,000 in the bank," Gayden said.
The Village Board also approved a contract for sealcoating of the Glenwoodie parking lot at a cost not to exceed $15,311.
"It would extend the life of that asphalt significantly," Durkin said.
The contract approved is with Lagone Paving & Sealcoating, Inc., of Glenwood.
With Trustee Carmen Hopkins absent, the Village Board approved both the sealcoating contract and the gazebo-related expenses by a 5-0 vote.
