GLENWOOD | The cost to insure the village-owned Glenwoodie Golf Course has gone up slightly.
The Village Board on Tuesday approved a premium of $27,226 to cover the course for the 12 months beginning Dec. 1. That represents a $3,776 increase over the premium approved last year.
Scott Doerfler, of Doerfler Insurance Agency Inc., told the board the main rise in cost was due to a large increase in the amount of equipment used to maintain the golf course.
"It went from approximately $725,000 to about $ 1.2 million," Doerfler said. "That was $1,900 of the (premium) increase."
Another reason for the premium hike is that the property values related to the new clubhouse dedicated last year were increased to cover reconstruction costs involved in case of a fire.
In other village news, Village Administrator Donna Gayden sought to clarify any confusion residents may have had regarding their water bills.
The board last week approved a water rate increase of $1.63 per 1,000 gallons. That came in response to the city of Hammond's intent to raise the price it charges for water from 57.5 cents per 1,000 gallons to $2.20 per 1,000 gallons.
"The water rate increase is effective Dec. 1, but it will be reflected in your January and February bills," Gayden said.
