GLENWOOD | Come Jan. 1, it will cost more to rent one of the village's three park fieldhouses as well as the John H. Blakey Senior Center.

The Village Board on Tuesday voted unanimously to increase the rental fee for each facility to $150.

"Currently, we have a rate of $75 plus $100 deposit," Village Administrator Donna Gayden said.

But Gayden said most who have rented the buildings under the current rental structure have not left them in the cleanest of conditions.

"Then we have to pay extra to have a cleaning staff come in to clean the facility," she said.

Gayden said the village has found it is losing money under the current system and she figures $150 would cover both the rental cost and any added cleaning that must occur.

She said the village finance committee agreed that charging a flat $150 fee with no security deposit would be wise.

Trustee Rich Nielsen pointed out that the rental fee for the senior center is currently $100, which means there will be just a $50 increase for the use of that building.

He asked Gayden if security deposits have been kept when renters have left facilities in poor condition.

She said some deposit money has been retained but that when a facility is rented in the evening and must be cleaned early the next day, that does not allow enough time for proper discussion of the condition of the building.

Gayden also said it can take a while to get a deposit back since it must go through the accounting department and Village Hall before a check is finally issued.

In other village news, the Glenwood parks will host a Christmas in the Park celebration from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday in Callahan-Strand Park, across from Village Hall.

Santa Claus will be on hand for pictures. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served at the nearby John H. Blakey Senior Center, 1 South Rebecca St.

Attendees who bring a nonperishable food item will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
