HARVEY | A 20-year-old man was shot to death by police Sunday morning after he tried to run over officers, police said.

The shooting happened about 10:20 a.m. after officers responded to an armed robbery in progress at a hotel at 16940 Halsted St., Harvey police said.

Officers were approaching the hotel's entrance when the suspect in a vehicle tried to run over officers, police said. Harvey officers then began shooting at the suspect and the approaching vehicle, police said.

The suspect was wounded and was taken to Advocate South Suburban Hospital where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office had not identified the man as of Sunday night.

Officials did not say Sunday how many times the suspect was shot.

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating the shooting, which is department protocol in an officer-related shooting.
