HARVEY | The fifth-grade class of Sherwood School in Highland Park recently made a donation of $2,014.35 to the Richard K. Desser, M.D., Memorial Fund of Ingalls Memorial Hospital’s development foundation.

The fifth-graders raised the funds by walking laps around the school for 30 minutes. Each lap was matched by donations from the student’s parents, family and friends.

The idea for the fundraiser came from Dr. Richard Desser’s grandson, Bennett Crane, who serves on Sherwood School’s fifth-grade government.

Richard Desser was a longtime physician on staff at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, and the hospital’s Richard K. Desser, M.D., Comprehensive Breast Center in Tinley Park is named in his honor.
