HARVEY | A 37-year-old man was arrested and accused of mistreating eight dogs that were found in a home from which he was being evicted, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

William Roberson was charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, one count of cruelty to animals and eight counts of failure of owner's duties.

Officials found seven pit pulls and a Chihuahua when they went to serve an eviction notice at the house in the 50th block of West 151st Street, according to a news release.

The sheriff's office's animal crimes unit found a dead dog in the basement and two emaciated dogs, according to the news release. The five other dogs appeared to be in better condition. Officials said it does not appear that the dogs were being used for fights.

The dogs were turned over to the South Suburban Humane Society.

Roberson is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a bond hearing.
