HARVEY | A 30-year-old Harvey man is charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after sheriff's police found a sawed-off shotgun while executing a search warrant at his home, police said.

Kristopher Buchanan, of the 14400 block of South Green Street, posted the 10 percent of his $5,000 bond set Thursday at 6th District Cook County Circuit Court in Markham, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

A Gun Suppression Team executed the search warrant at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Buchanan's resident following a tip that Buchanan allegedly possessed firearms. He has multiple felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance, which prohibits him from possessing firearms, police said.

Sheriff's officers found Buchanan in front of his residence. Upon entering the home they found a 12-gauge, model 916 Smith & Wesson shotgun with its barrel sawed off in a bedroom.

Buchanan's next court date is July 18 in Markham.

Since forming in February, the Gun Suppression Team has recovered 156 guns and 137 revoked firearm owner's identification cards. It has also resolved 90 FOID card cases.
