HARVEY | A Harvey police officer was shot Sunday while responding to a robbery in progress call.

The officer, who was not identified, was responding just before 6 p.m. to a business at 159th and Wood streets to a call of a robbery, Harvey police said. An unidentified suspect started shooting at the officer as soon as he arrived on the scene.

The officer was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. He was reportedly in stable condition late Sunday.

Harvey police did not say where the officer was shot.

Officers had not located the suspect as of Sunday night.

Illinois State Police and the Cook County Sheriff's Office were assisting Harvey police in the search.
