HARVEY | A 27-year-old Harvey man died Tuesday night after having trouble breathing in the detention area of the Harvey Police Department, officials said.

Jeremy Hill of the 14000 block of Leavitt Street was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The cause of death is pending further investigation.

Sandra Alvarado, spokeswoman for the City of Harvey, said Harvey police took Hill into custody around 6 p.m. and as they brought him into the detention area, he began having trouble breathing.

"An ambulance was immediately contacted and responded to the department, where they gave the unresponsive subject emergency treatment and transported the subject to Ingalls hospital," Alvarado said.

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating the death as a mater of protocol.
