MARKHAM | A Midlothian man charged in the fatal Thursday shooting of a Harvey man has been denied bail.

Judge Isreal Desierto ordered Dashonti Wiley, 39, held without bail on Saturday. Wiley will appear in court again Tuesday at the Sixth District Cook County Circuit courthouse in Markham, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office.

Wiley is charged with one count of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Keithen Rupert, 19, of the 15800 block of Myrtle Avenue, according to a news release from the Harvey Police Department.

At about 3 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of 152nd Street and Vine Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Rupert with a gunshot wound, the release states. He was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police investigators learned the shooting may have been the result of an earlier altercation between the two men. Police located and arrested Wiley at 9 p.m. Thursday.
