HARVEY | Three Harvey firefighters were sent to a local hospital Tuesday night after a roof on a burning building collapsed on them.

Sean Howard, spokesman for the City of Harvey, said firefighters were called at 9:15 p.m. to an auto shop in the 14800 block of S. Loomis Avenue for a report of a vehicle fire inside.

Three workers at the shop told fire crews they were working inside when the fire started. They were not injured in the blaze.

Howard said the roof collapsed while firefighters were inside. They were transported to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey where they were treated for smoke inhalation and released, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Howard said.
