HOMEWOOD | Motorists traveling Halsted Street through the south suburb can start expecting delays in April thanks to a project to replace the bridge over the abandoned Illinois Central Railroad south of the Tri-State Tollway.
Weather permitting, the Illinois Department of Transportation expects to begin replacing the bridge on Monday. It is 1.2 miles south of the Tri-State Tollway.
The project will require a lane reduction on Halsted Street from Ridge Road to 183rd Street, according to a news release. Lane closures will begin April 1 for advance work on the project. Beginning April 22, Halsted Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The project has a completion date of Oct. 15.
